What is realistic expectation for West Ham
I ask because I hear many saying 'be careful what you wish for' and the comments of Souness today saying we have always been a yo-yo club. As a fan of many years I dream the dream but are we really 'deluded' as Sam called us, a crap team who hang onto past history and out of touch with the reality.

This season is massive for us, I cant even contemplate the thought of relegation and moving into the Olympic Stadium the following year we wouldl be a laughing stock if relegated and I think this will add pressure to the squad all next season, lets face it every other club and press would love the story of us being relegated next year. Allardyce has left us with his sort of trademark team, a more expansive imaginative manager will struggle with such a solidish but unspectacular squad and a massive overhaul is needed. The next manager appointment has to be right and we need a good start otherwise I see a long season ahead. As fans what should we expect as realistic expectations next season and beyond??

Would'tn't it be nice to win a game 3-0, 4-2 - again score more than 1 fucking goal and then defend for dear life???.
That is for starters a realistic expectation.

My expectations for West Ham is for us to always try our hardest to do our best.

My goal is for us to play attractive entertaining football and to win every game.

My aim.is for our club to be managed properly and well in every department.

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
Realistic expectation in the short term is to stabilise after a dreadful run of form. And hopefully to make positive steps towards remedying Allardyce ultra-negative mindset and style from the playing squad. I don't think it will be easy or done overnight. It could be a scrappy next season imo, and I'd bite your hand off for any form of survival right now.

Longer term the expectation is to get better value from the money that continues to be invested in the side, hopefully to start closing the massive gap between us and the top sides. Won't be easy or quick - hopefully we're finally on the right track though.

Just for the record...

Realistic expectation for us is upper mid-table playing exciting, forward thinking football and doing our best to derail the best-laid plans of the established big 4 or 5 clubs - by making a visit to our ground as intimidating and difficult match as is possible...

As they say in Spain - If they want to beat us then...

"Make them leave their skin on the pitch"

A team committed to playing attacking football at home with two up top

A team who will have a manager who will respect the traditions of the club and understand the supporters. Or in modern parlance fan base and customer.

A team that employs a manager to respect cup competitions.

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
Better than 13th and 16 points from the last half of the season.

With the new players we got this season we should be on over 50 points, the reason we haven't is purely down to Allardyce and his poor management.

Another good crop of signings and a decent manager and we'll finish in the top 10 the fact we didn't finish top 10 is a disgrace!

Another World Cup win. Although the Euro's would do.

A realistic expectation of where we should be?

Well, we just finished below those powerhouses of football Stoke, Southampton, Swansea & Crystal Palace. We're moving out of a stadium that is bigger than any of those clubs, we bang it to the rafters every week, pay a lot fucking more for the pleasure, pay our managers a lot more, our net spend is vastly bigger, and we play the worst fooball by a mile.

My expectation is to be in that mix, at the very fucking least, but do it with a bit of style is the main thing. If all we're destined to do is mix with that lot, at least make it decent to watch.

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
Realistic expectations based on revenue, fanbase, history - any criteria you want to choose - put us about 10th-12th in the PL. A poor manager would get us placed lower, a good one higher, an average one at 10th-12th (as Allardyce has done).

The move to the OS should push up the expectations anyway but even if we only maintain mid-table mediocrity it can at least be acheived in an entertaining way by any half-decent manager.

At the very least, finishing above clubs like Newcastle nearly all of the time.

Take that, Sappy Shearer

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
The West Ham I grew up loving went out to try and win most games, coming a cropper on plenty of occasions but pulling off some fantastic results on the way.

West Ham under Allardyce has been painful and dull.

I reckon it's back to the drawing board. The hype about going to the new stadium ain't going to help. I reckon another rollercoaster with two managers in a season.

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
a manager that picks his best available team and tries to win games rather than a safety first approach. if that brings a decent league position and the odd cup run then great, but like carragher said earlier, most teams know they'll never win anything (especially now) so the least you want out of watching your side is a bit of entertainment. im not asking for fantasy football but just the right approach

cunts like shearer keep spouting the careful what you wish for line (he has done just now on motd), but he forgets the morons of the club he loves got allardyce out of his club within just eight months. there's no reason why we can't compete with everton, the y-words and liverpool for the europa league spots over the next couple of the years if the owners get the next appointment right

Re: What is realistic expectation for West Ham
Consistently or 7th 8th but with an aim in the next 3-5 years of breaking into the top 6.

But we need a top manager who is willing and able to take on the whole club from youth - first team and put a philosphy in place. We also need to invest in the first team so we dont continue to be derailed by key injuries because of a paper thin squad. The club infastructurle also needs investment including a state of the art training and academy complex and more importantly investment in players.
